Last winter as I wondered through the Internet, I stumbled upon The Society of Robots. This website had gobs of information on building little robots and looked like fun. As I read more I found their $50 dollar robot project and decided to try it. I took an old iPhone box and used that as the body. I followed their electronics and programming sections to build a development board for the microprocessor. It uses an Amtel ATmega8 chip that we run at 1Mhz and a handful of other parts (all under $30 or so). We had a fun time putting together a little robot that would turn away from light. We then changed it to chase light. It was a cool learning experience.
